Men, particularly black men have not been given permission to show vulnerability nor emotions. From an early age, little black boys are told to man up. They have been told by society and reinforced by many parents that crying shows weakness. This is not because parents dont love their black boys. Its because we are passing down generational trauma. We are fully aware of the microaggressions that black boys encounter from birth. We are preparing them for a world that fears them and feels threatened by them. They have been told that strong men don't cry. So as a result, many men walk around with trapped emotions, with depression, with anxiety, with ptsd, They dont seek mental health treatment because the stigma of seeking treatment denotes weakness. Together let's create a society where everyone feels safe to exist, to express their emotions, their vulnerabilities, and their truths.
